We’ve been talking about Digital Transformation for years now, and 2015 was the year in which it finally went mainstream, the year in which we no longer needed to explain to everyone that disruption is really happening, the year in which it was talked about at almost every event and discussed daily on Social Media.

Google Trends on Digital Transformation
2016 just began and you’ve likely already seen or read some articles about the next big things in 2016. Now that many more people are aware of digital disruption and transformation, we can move on to bigger and better things right?
Deja vu
Years ago when Social Media (and later on Content) became the hype, everyone was talking about how brands and organizations could leverage it to “tell stories” and “connect with their audience on a whole new level”. At some point we all got fed up with it and kind of “moved on” to let the new Social Media and content people in the company handle it.
But if you look at your organization years later, are you REALLY killing it on Social Media? Do you create great content that is read, commented on and shared by many? For most organizations the answer is “no”.
So now that it is 2016 and you’re aware of Digital disruption and transformation, has your organization already transformed or is it doing so? Are you investing heavily in digital? Are you creating new products and services with new business models? Is your organization digital minded, top-down? Are you solving real problems for people? Do you know all the new challengers that popped up in your sector? Do you have a strategy that allows you to deal with the challenges ahead?
Don’t repeat your mistakes
You can try to look for “The Next Hype” and hope all this Digital Transformation stuff will blow over without hurting your organisation, but if you’re not fully prepared yet then we urge you to reconsider. Don’t move on this year while you still have unfinished business. Disruption and Transformation are no hypes and 2016 will continue to prove that, with record investments by Venture Capitalists, new technologies like Virtual Reality coming to fruition and digital players that continue to raise the bar in every industry.
Getting inspired by innovative new technologies and players is important, but you still have a major challenge to complete which requires you to do things, so get going.
